Your network is your net-worth.
I’ve always liked this piece of advice, but at the same time, I feel it creates as many problems as it solves.
Don’t get me wrong, there is an important truth to it…
Having a strong network of elite friends and allies who care about you is perhaps the most effective way to speed-up your business & social results.
Still, most people make inherently some misunderstandings when it comes to “networking”.
The biggest one is probably treating it as a one-off type of situation, such as:
-Attending a networking conference.
-Joining a party hosted by influential people.
-Sending lots of connection requests on LinkedIn premium.
Most of these traditional networking methods have a single, specific goal: exchanging contacts with others hoping to magically make something profitable together in the future.
Spoiler alert…Most times, it won’t happen.
Strong partnerships and 6-figure deals are rarely born out of 5-minute chit-chats between strangers, followed by exchanging business cards –– unless you’re a well-established millionaire already ;)
